Senator Magnus Abe, a former leader of the All Progressives Congress, has emerged as the SDP’s candidate for governor of Rivers State in the 2023 elections, just 24 hours after declaring his membership in the party.

Abe was chosen during a primary held in Port Harcourt on Saturday under the supervision of Pastor Emmanuel Isong, a senior officer with the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The primary was considered as the most impartial ever held in the state and included members from the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Police.

Alhaji Muhammed Ibrahim, the chairman of the SDP replacement electoral committee, pronounced Abe the undisputed winner after he received 30 votes.

There is no longer any room for debate regarding whether the former senator who represented the Rivers South East Senatorial District in the red house of the National Assembly will keep his word and appear on the ballot.

Ibrahim encouraged party members to go get their permanent voters cards while praising Abe as a credible contender.

“Today, we chose a respectable candidate for governor of Rivers state,” he declared. Let me take this opportunity to thank you all for acting civilly and for choosing the distinguished Senator Magnus Abe as the party’s nominee for governor of the state of Rivers. Magnus Abe is a very popular candidate.

“For those of you who have not yet registered or collected your PVCs, please be sure you do so before the time set by INEC expires.

“I am very convinced that the SDP would take power in Rivers state by 2023 with a qualified candidate like Senator Magnus Abe,” the author said.

Elder Chidi Wihioka, a former member of the House of Representatives and a chieftain of the SDP in the state, praised INEC for its efforts to ensure that the elections in Nigeria were free, fair, and credible in his message of solidarity.

Wihioka observed that given recent events surrounding the Osun state governorship election, Nigerians may cast their ballots with certainty that they will be counted.

I once served as an INEC election commissioner, he declared. I can assure you that INEC is currently performing well.

Nigerians now have high hopes that their ballots will be counted in future elections thanks to INEC.

Election-related violence will henceforth be a thing of the past. There is no question that we will have a good year in 2023 with Magnus Abe running for governor of our wonderful party, the SDP.

Solsuema Osaro, the SDP’s state chairman, expressed optimism that the party will become difficult to defeat in the state in 2023 as a result of Abe’s candidacy.

He declared, “I am extremely convinced that Rivers state belongs to SDP with Abe as our candidate.

Princess Patricia Ogbonna, a former permanent secretary in the Rivers state civil service, was chosen to be Senator Abe’s running mate in the meanwhile.
