That the history of politics is filled with hatred and tantrum, bloodletting and scheming is like stating the obvious. These traits that characterized world politics came to fore on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 when former Oyo State governor, Alao Akala, who is now recontesting for governorship under Labour Party and the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, Senator Teslim Folarin clashed in Ibadan during campaign.
According to an eye witness, the two contestants along with their supporters came face-to-face while campaigning in one of the rural villages in Ibadan. Among the team that accompanied Teslim Folarin was said to be Fuji music star, Abass Akande popularly known as Obesere, and they were said to have first hit the village before Akala’s convoy coincidentally clashed with them. On sighting each other, their supporters, we learnt, started shouting and chanting songs of war. S
Sources at the event said for close to an hour, there was a standstill as the supporters started throwing dangerous weapons at each other. While this lasted, the two contestants were also said to have engaged in showy display of wealth by throwing loads of naira into the air. This was said to have lasted for about three hours before both parties finally went their separate ways.
Before now, it’s said all is not well between the heavyweight politicians, and this event could a pointer to their perceived rivalry and enmity.
