Bayern Munich proved too strong for dark horses Lyon as the Bavarians advanced to the Champions League final with a comprehensive 3-0 victory.
A brace from Serge Gnabry and a Lewandowski goal late on were enough to set up a mammoth clash against Paris Saint-Germain in the final on Sunday, August 23.
Lyon went into the game as overwhelming underdogs, but they showed no signs of that in the early stages as they sought to mount an upset at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.
Notably, captain Memphis Depay and striker Karl Toko Ekambi had some gilt-edged chances early on but both spewed their chances when the game was still 0-0.
Depay was played through on goal, but goalkeeper Manuel Neuer somehow managed to make himself big enough to put off the Dutch forward.
Minutes later and Lyon once again took advantage of Bayern’s high line to play in Ekambi who did some great work on his own only to strike the upright when it looked like the goal was at his mercy.
The youngster scored a screamer in the 18th minute after dribbling past a couple of players before rifling in a powerful shot past keeper Anthony Lopez.
For all of Lyon’s attacking intent at the beginning, the goal shifted momentum Bayern’s way and the Germans were 2-0 up 13 minutes later after Gnabry pounced on a missed chance from Lewandowski in the box.
The Germans were in control of the game from then on, although Lyon, who eliminated Juventus and Manchester City en route to the semis, will have themselves to blame for not being clinical enough upfront.
Ekambi was fed another stunning ball midway in the second half but once again failed to get the better of Neuer in a chance that seemed to have sealed the fate of the tie.
Gnabry and Lewandowski have combined to score 24 goals in the UCL this season.

The game was meandering towards a typical victory for Bayern, whose result was confirmed in the 88th minute courtesy of Lewandowski, who nodded an impressive 55th goal of the season.
