Nigerian disc jockey DJ Neptune is of the opinion that DJs just like musicians have no retirement age.
He made this statement in an interview with Sunday Scoop where he spoke about his career as well as his family.
Speaking in the interview, DJ Neptune was asked if there was an age where he would consider “dropping his turntables” but he answered saying that personally, he has not thought much about it because when the time comes, he will know it and will cross the bridge.
He then added that DJs have no particular retirement age just like musicians and others in the industry.
“I don’t know for now. When we get to the bridge at that time, we shall cross the bridge.
“There’s no particular age for DJs to retire” he explained.
Speaking about how lucrative the DJ job is as compared to musicians, DJ Neptune was of the view that it varies and depends on the brand and person.
This is because there are musicians who are paid higher than DJs and vice versa and sited DJ Jimmy Jatt as an example.
“Well, you can say some artiste are paid more than DJs same way I can tell you that I know some DJs who get paid more than some artistes.
“What matters most is how you manage your resources and cut your coat according to your cloth.
“Mind you, the life span of a DJ on the job most time is longer than that of an artiste.
“A good example is DJ Jimmy Jatt. He has been in the music industry as a DJ for over 25 years.
“I am sure you can count the artistes that have come and faded off while DJ Jimmy Jatt is still relevant and killing shows till tomorrow.”
