“On this day every year, we celebrate Armed Forces Remembrance Day across Nigeria. This morning in Abuja I joined senior government and military officials to lay Wreaths in commemoration of the sacrifices of our fallen heroes and war veterans. Their efforts will never be in vain.

“The 15th of January was intentionally chosen as Armed Forces Remembrance Day in Nigeria to commemorate the end of our civil war. It is a constant reminder to us of the need to guard jealously the unity of our country which was won at great cost.

“Let me use this opportunity to reiterate that the peace and security of Nigeria are non-negotiable; and that our Administration remains fully committed to supporting our Armed Forces with equipment and improved welfare, as they keep us safe from internal and external threats.

“To the spouses and dependents of our fallen heroes, let me assure that we are taking seriously our responsibility as a government to ensure you do not suffer want and deprivation. We will do all in our powers to look after the bereaved.

“We will also continue to look after our veterans, and support the Nigerian Legion, of which I am Grand Patron. I commend the leadership of the Legion for their various welfare initiatives, an urge Nigerians to generously accord them support and patronage.
