9 arrested for invading Ghana’s Atewa Forest reserve

Nine illegal miners are currently in police custody at the Kibi Divisional Police Command after they invaded the Samang Dwaso portion of the Atewa Forest Reserve to engage in galamsey in Ghana.
A 13-member forestry guard during field monitoring activities chanced on these illegal miners who had pitched camp within the forest reserve.

The team which then surrounded them noticed that more than 0.5 hectares of the forest reserve had been destroyed by the 9 illegal miners who had dug several trenches.
The Kibi District Forestry Manager Emmanuel Antwi who confirmed the arrest to Citi News said the suspects will be put before the court on Wednesday.
