The new Acting Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Imohimi D. Edgal, has been demoted according to an unconfirmed reports reaching benconews.com. Demoted along with Edgal by the Police Service to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police is Aji Ali Janga.
PSC in an internal memo to the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, said it was withdrawing the anticipatory approval given for the elevation of Edgal and Janga.
According to the memo signed by the Permanent Secretary of the PSC, M. F. Istifanus, the two officers are to revert to their position of Deputy Commissioners of Police, DCP.
The memo, signed by Istifanus on behalf of the Chairman of the Commission, Mike Okiro, said the anticipatory approval given on August 22, 2017, was withdrawn at the plenary meeting of the PSC on September 26 and 27, 2017. No reason was given for the withdrawal of the promotion of the officers.
However, many are beginning to link the unconfirmed demotion to the ongoing death case involving singer Davido. Tagbo, one of Davido’s friends died a week ago after alleging taking hard drugs with the singer at a popular hangout in Lagos.
The CP had earlier indicted Davido for giving false information to the police as regarding what led to the death of Tagbo and he has as well called the artiste for more interrogation.
However, people are with the opinion that the CP could have been demoted as a result of his highhandedness in handling the singer’s case whose parents are very prominent and connected with the power that be.
Meanwhile, the singer was today seen at the venue of DJ Olu’s funeral. The DJ, who was Davido’s friend, also died under very controversial circumstance on Saturday, October 7th, 2017, alongside a friend identified as Chime. The cause of their death is yet to be determined by the police, but investigation on the case is still ongoing.
DJ Olu’s funeral took place at Emmanuel Chapel, 405 Close, Banana Island, Lagos. Davido attended in company of his manager, Asa Asika, B-Red and other members of the DMW group.
Recall that Edgal, a DCP, replaced Fatai Owoseni as Lagos CP to the surprise of many observers.
