Barcelona Hammers Deportivo 8-0 To End 3-Match Defeat

Barcelona returned to form with an 8-0 win over Deportivo La Coruna on Wednesday, and star striker Luis Suarez stole the show with no fewer than four goals.

The Uruguayan struck twice each side of half-time to guide the Catalans to their first La Liga win in their last five tries, ensuring his team maintains the top spot in the standings. Per Unibet, he recorded his sixth hat-trick of the campaign.

Per OptaJose, he also added three assists, setting a new La Liga benchmark:

He quickly added a second goal off an assist from Lionel Messi, at which point Deportivo seemed ready to give up. He then provided Ivan Rakitic with the third goal of the match, producing a stunning turn to set his team-mate up before completing his hat-trick from close range.

Deportivo’s defence was nowhere to be found for either goal, nor was it for Suarez’s fourth:

Messi, Marc Bartra and Neymar completed the scoring with a late barrage of goals, but no one was able to steal the spotlight from Suarez, who now trails Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo by just a single goal in the Spanish top-scorers race, per WhoScored.com.

Per Barcelona’s official website, manager Luis Enrique called Wednesday’s effort “spectacular,” although somewhat surprisingly, he singled out Messi as the standout player: “We moved down the wings really well, with Leo making his superiority tell, and we made sure we took our early chances. From there on, everything was on a roll.”
